Types of orthodontic appliances
Orthodontic treatment is aimed at restoring teeth to correct their teeth, removing bite defects and increasing the aesthetics of dentition. Orthodontists offer their patients a variety of orthodontic devices. What are their types?
Classic orthodontic devices
Orthodontic devices most often associate with metal "jewelry" on the teeth. Indeed, such classic metal cases with locks on individual teeth are most commonly used in orthodontic cabinets. The fixed, metal camera sticks to the external surfaces of all our teeth. It consists of the following elements:
• castles - metal cubes,
• rings or tubes,
Metal appliances are made of titanium or metal alloy with or without nickel, depending on the individual needs and preferences of the patients.
The type of classic orthodontic apparatus is aesthetic apparatus, which have the same construction as the metal apparatus. They are built of locks made of porcelain, crystal or composite material, so they blend visually into the color of the patient's teeth. Ceramic or crystal aesthetics are least visible because either they are made in a color similar to the natural color of the dentition of the patient or are transparent. The disadvantage of aesthetic cameras is that they are even twice as expensive than metal cameras.
Lingual orthodontic apparatus
With its construction, the lingual orthodontic device, also called lingual, is reminiscent of classic dental appliances, but its locks are located on the inside of the teeth, so they are completely hidden from the outside. The contraindications for the use of aesthetic lingual fixed apparatus are:
• relatively low teeth in which the crown part of the tooth is insufficiently high,
• Periodontal disease,
• narrow arches,
• bad oral hygiene.
Language cameras are made individually and the design of the camera is created using computer techniques.
Orthodontic device transparent
The most aesthetic, because the invisible camera for the teeth will be the Invisalign cosmetic. It consists of transparent overlays that closely cover the teeth. They are exchanged every 2 weeks, and the indication for using such a camera is minor defects. This camera is comfortable because the overlays can be easily removed during meal or tooth brushing.
